At last, my new drift boat was finally ready! It was ordered from LaMoyne Hyde himself last October and now it was ready for me to tow it home. My previous boat was a Hyde High Side XL Guide Series and it was a great boat in many ways but for a number of reasons, one of which I may get into later, I was ready for a change. LaMoyne did offer me a reasonable trade-in on my previous boat and I was happy with many of the new features of the skiff, including lighter weight, easier on and off the trailer, easier to row and maneuver. The storage is also better with rod holders up above, a couple of handy compartments and a RTIC cooler under the front seat, making this boat fully walk-around and the lower gunnels making it really easy to get in and out of. I also like the color, a simple sage green all around. The only negative is that it is not as stable in big water, meaning the South Fork during the high flows of summer. However, I don’t particularly care to fish the South Fork at 10,000+ cfs anyway.
Once I have it out on the water, I will go into greater detail about what I like and don’t like. Stay tuned!
