St. Thomas – USVI

August 31st – September 12th 2024

This is NOT a fishing post, this is a travel post. I fished a little both at Megan’s Beach and at Bro Beach, which really isn’t a beach at all, but it is right below my brother’s property, which is where we stayed on St. Thomas.

Celebration time!

Firat and foremost, we celebrated the completion (almost) of my brother’s and my sister in-law’s new home. It is absolutely breathtaking. The pictures below do not do it justice. Second, I got to celebrate my 70th birthday and my retirement. Making the decision that I did not want to work at 70 years old. Can you blame me? Finally, my wife and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. So great because we are so in love. Beach days, just the two of us.

Sanctuary.

The pictures below can’t begin to faithfully convey the magnificence of this home. Modern, yes, but perfectly suited to its surroundings. Not many of the interior though, wish I’d taken more.

Sunrises and Sunset

My lovely wife

Bro Beach – a climb so extreme, we needed a rope

Magens Beach

We loved Magens Beach – So close! Less than 2 miles from bros new home. $7 dollar entry fee, but they wave the parking fee for seniors. Well worth it. Gets crowded when the cruise ships are in port, but the cruise passengers tend to hang out near the gate where the taxis let them off. We head for the other end so all is well. We also snorkeled there along the rock, which are at the far end of the beach. It’s also where mister pelican (pictured above) was hanging out. The fishing did not work out. We rented a 2 person kayak and chased some bait pods, but as soon as we reached the pods, they moved. Then a huge squall came through and really made paddling difficult. Not too much rain but huge wind and the accompanying waves. It cut our fishing short, but it was OK, we were exhausted from paddling against the wind.

St. John

Going from St Thomas to St John is so cool! You just drive your rental car onto a car ferry and it take about 20 minutes to cruise across. We actully went twice, the first time all four of us and the second time just bro and me.

We had a great time in St Thomas and owe a lot to the amazing experiences made possible by my brother’s home on the sea cliff! Many of the pics above show the four islands in view. The amazing sunrises and suunsets. It was truly magical to stay there. We are blessed! Thank you bro!
