Music On Main – Victor, Idaho

Music on Main is one of the pillars that defines the small, mountain town culture that is Victor, Idaho. We have the foundation to thank for this, and the sponsors – Richard & Claire, who funded it, along with local sponsors. It is great that these concerts are free to the public and family oriented. The music happens in the park in the center of town. There is a big stage and lots of lawn seating where everyone brings blankets and/or chairs. Concerts are scheduled for Thursday nights, from mid-June to mid-August. This is when the evening weather is best although we have had some downpours that have sent everyone scattering.

The music is always excellent! They committee does a great job choosing the bands and will try to re-book the fan favorites. About half of the acts return year after year and it is a mixture of local bands, typically from the Jackson, WY area, and touring bands who may just be passing through. There is usually a headliner and a back-up band and the concert usually goes from 6ish to 9:30 or so, with the headliner starting around 8pm. The genres tend to center around Americana and Bluegrass, but not always. Sometimes we get funk bands, jam bands and who knows what? The common thread though is that they all have the Victor vibe, and a big crowd dancing in front of the stage is common, except during the pandemic, of course.

The food is provided by local restaurants who bring in their food trucks. We get pizzas, Thai food and a variety of other items that change frequently. The Teton Valley Foundation provides beer and wine and the beer is sourced locally from the Grand Teton Brewing Company. Since the foundation uses volunteers to provide this service, the profits from sales go right back to the foundation. Otherwise, donations are placed into the jars at the front gate and they help pay for future.

It is actually astounding to me that a town of 2,000 people can pull this off. This feat and the funding required would typically be managed by a community 10 times the size of Victor. Good on you Victor! It’s really the people who make this place special!
