63rd Day of Fly Fishing – Provo River, Utah
The last few times out have been very challenging for me. Trout fishing in general this past summer, once we got past the June was really slow. Slow meaning lots of casts and very few fish. Today I was back in my Utah home water, the Provo river. I set out this morning later than usual thanks to yoga class, but the midge hatches tend to be after noon, so no big deal. Fish were rising below the bridge and I excitedly rigged my 3wt Scott G2. It was not a heavy hatch, just enough to get some fish to rise. The bugs were small though. Not much bigger than this font. I went through several fly changes and discovered that a black size 24 with no hackle was the ticket, and of course I had to go down to 6.5X flouro for the tippet. Picked up four, one was really nice! Missed 2 because who can follow a size 24 anyway! It was a great day! 😃
